Adoption
process

Adopting a rescue animal is not just the right thing to do; it's going to reward you over and over again. These animals need people like you to open your heart and home to them. In return, you enjoy unconditional love, companionship and the warm, fuzzy feelings you get from helping an animal in need.

Now, that's not just a good deed, it’s a great one!

Adopting from BARKS is a straightforward and exciting process. We'll work closely with you to help the adoption process go smoothly and give you all the advice and support you need.

Here is a step-by-step breakdown of our adoption process:

We make sure the animals up for adoption are healthy, friendly and microchipped.

As the potential adopter, you schedule a visit to meet the available animals.

You reserve your chosen animal.

In the case of our cats, kittens or puppies, we visit your home for a friendly chat, to offer advice and to assess whether your chosen animal will be a good fit. Find out more about what this meeting involves and why it's so important in our FAQs.

For the rabbits and other smaller furries, we usually cover most points during the adoption meeting at our premises.

We make a recommendation and approve or decline the adoption.

If the adoption is approved, you make a donation and sign up to the animal care conditions.

You collect your new family member.

We either make follow-up phone calls to check how you’re all settling in - or you can get back in touch with us for extra tips or advice.

Right, now that the boring stuff is out of the way...
